Morning message


Good morning first graders! Today Mrs. Valastro will do an activity with us during our morning meeting! I'm so excited to see what she has planned.

Learning activities for today

  • Reading 
    • Review the “Read Aloud Like an Expert” chart.
    • Read for 20 minutes.
    • Make sure your voice matches the feeling of the book. 
Fluency chart

  • Writing
    • Continue to book you started Monday.
    • If you are writing a small moment or realistic fiction think about your characters, setting, problem and solution. If you are writing an “all about” book think about what facts you are going to teach. If you are writing a review think about your opinion and many reasons why that is your opinion. 
    • Write for 20 minutes.
  • Phonics/ Word Study
    • While you are reading, look for CVCe words (also called magic e, silent e, or bossy e words) in the books. Make a list and add the CVCe word each time you find one.

  • Math - Addition practice day
    • Please make and solve 10,  2 number addition equations using numbers between 1 and 9.  Be sure to challenge yourself! (example - 6+8=______)
    • Please make and solve 8, 3 number addition equations using numbers between 1 and 9.  Be sure to challenge yourself! (example - 3+5+7=_____)
    • Solve these equations:  10 +7=_______; 4+10=_______;  make 5 other addition equations using 10 and another number and solve them.

  • Science - Engineering Process - What is the Question or Problem; Imagine a solution; Plan your design; Create your design; Test it; Improve It.
    • Problem:  Build a bridge, what can it hold?  Materials: paper, 2 blocks or cups, or something that will hold your paper bridge off of the ground, objects that get heavier, that you can put on your bridge to see how much it can hold.  How: Fold your paper in a way that you think will make it strong enough to hold your objects.  Put it on the blocks to make your bridge. Put objects on it to see how much your bridge can hold.  Can you build a better bridge to hold more?  What is your best idea to hold the most stuff?
  • Social Studies
    • Each day, notice the weather and fill it in on the weather graph.
