Morning message

Good morning! Today is Thursday. It looks like it might be a weird weather day! Check the weather often today and make observations. Here is a copy of the weather watcher worksheet we did back in September.
weather watcher paper

You can draw the weather you see on any paper. Remember to put clues in your drawing that show the temperature, precipitation (rain/snow), wind, and what the sky looks like (clouds, sun, fog).

Did any of you do any of the activities that went with the Scholastic News Magazine we read together yesterday? You can do the activities and read more Scholastic News Magazines on their website using our class code: rmanza

See you tomorrow at 9 am for our Friday morning meeting! We will do the "weekend's near" greeting!

Have a wonderful Thursday!

Love,
Mrs. Manz

Calendar

Here is the calendar square for today:

Triangle

Trace the square. Cut it out.
Can you fold the triangle to get two equal, congruent parts?
If you fold a figure in half and the two halves are exactly the same size and shape, that figure is said to be symmetrical. The fold line is called the line of symmetry.
Symmetry pictures
Every day, check to see whether the figure is symmetrical (has line symmetry) or asymmetrical (does not have line symmetry).

Learning activities for today

  • Reading
    • Read books for 20 minutes.
    • Practice your “reread to smooth it out” strategy.
  • Writing
    • Re-read your book. Make sure your book makes sense. Does everything sound right? Does your character(s) problem get solved.
    • Write for 20 minutes
  • Math
    • Keep those place value skills sharp by practicing with this “Tens place” practice page.
      • Extension: Write expanded form out for each problem.
  • Science
    • Hold your hand against her own face as you talk and feel the movement (vibrations).
    • Next, put a finger on the front of your throat, close to their “voice box,” (middle of the throat) being careful not to press too hard. Talk to someone about what you feel. Make your voice go high, low, loud, and soft. What happens to the feeling?
    • Or, Mystery Science Lesson 5 How could you send a secret message to someone far away?
  • Social Studies
    • Each day, notice the weather and fill it in on the weather graph. Look at the weather so far. Tell someone about what you notice.
